Sailing across the Atlantic is the dream of many sailors. On this journey, you’ll also experience the Caribbean island of Guadeloupe and the fantastic archipelago of the Azores visiting the islands of Faial and Sao Miguel – while adding 2,200 NM to your logbook.

Sailing across the Atlantic from west to east is considered by many to be the true Atlantic crossing, unlike the other route, which mainly involves downwind sailing toward increasingly warmer waters.
We gather in Marina Bas du Fort, Guadeloupe on the 6th of April. We will familiarize ourselves with Celeste of Solent and with each other. Sailing across the Atlantic requires thorough preparation, and there is plenty to organize before departure. As a crew member on Celeste, you are part of the adventure and take part in everything from provisioning to the final boat preparations. We will also divide into watch teams for the crossings and conduct a safety briefing.

We set sail from Marina Bas du Fort for the 2,200 NM passage to the Azores and the long-distance sailors’ eagerly awaited destination, Horta, on the island of Faial.
We quickly settle into our sailing routines, and the watch shifts begin. You will be on watch for three hours and off watch for six hours. The responsible watch team handles steering, trimming, and navigation. As a crew member on board you become part of the team and are involved in everything from steering and navigating to cooking and taking care of the boat.

In addition to the skipper and first mate, we will have a whale researcher on board. Valuable data will be collected using both a hydrophone and photographs.

Celeste is a performance yacht and we expect the crossing to take between 15 and 18 days. We will likely experience a variety of sailing conditions during the crossing, with both calm days and more challenging ones.
In Horta, we will add to the sailors’ murals on the quay with another painting of our own and, of course, visit the iconic Peter’s Café.
