On this route, you will experience the Canary Islands both by sail and on foot. We sail from Tenerife to two or three of the islands where we will go hiking together with our hiking guide Niklas, who also sails with us on Celeste. This is a sailing trip focused on nature – both at sea and on land.
We gather at the marina located on the southern part of Tenerife. It is close to Tenerife South Airport (TFS / Reina Sofia). Once everyone is gathered, we do the grocery shopping for the entire trip and familiarize ourselves with the boat. We then have a safety briefing before setting off.
We plan the route based on wind conditions. The plan is to do one or two hikes on Tenerife, either before setting off or when we return. We might possibly climb Teide. From Tenerife, we sail to La Gomera, which is a little mecca for hiking, with very diverse nature. From Gomera, we sail on to either El Hierro or La Palma. Depending on the weather conditions and how long we choose to stay on the various islands, we may sail to both El Hierro and La Palma.
The sailing will mostly consist of day routes with some longer legs. Once everyone is accustomed to being on board, we may do a night sail to give us the opportunity to visit more islands. Sailing by moonlight under a star-filled sky, possibly with some bioluminescence, is an experience you won’t want to miss. Additionally, if we see whales and dolphins, we will come home with many memories.
If you are more experienced in sailing, you might appreciate when we hoist larger sails such as the Gennaker of 320 sq m.
Sailing between the Canary Islands is an adventure that offers a variety of experiences and challenges. The islands have a subtropical climate with warm temperatures year-round. All the islands have beautiful beaches and opportunities for various hikes.

About the hikes
Our hikes on the various islands will be adjusted so that we don’t need to make overly long transfers from the harbor we are based in. The hikes with Niklas will be approximately 10 km long. If you want to take shorter hikes on your own, you can get recommendations on site. It is important to bring a pair of sturdy hiking boots/shoes. Regular sneakers are not recommended. You should also bring a small daypack that can hold water and a packed lunch.
For inspiration, you can have a look at these links to hikes that we will likely do:
Tenerfie
In Tenerife, climbing Spain’s highest mountain, Teide, at 3,718 meters above sea level, is a special experience. It is uncertain whether we can do this because only 200 people per day are allowed to climb the mountain. You need to book a pass, preferably three months in advance, and you must have all the names ready as you cannot change names later. Therefore, we cannot count on doing this hike, but it is not entirely excluded. However, there are many other great hikes in Tenerife that we can do, such as:
