This is the sailing trip for those who want to experience ocean sailing under occasionally challenging conditions and explore three of the Atlantic archipelagos.
We start our journey from São Miguel in mid September and set course for Santa Maria, the southernmost of the Azorean islands, 100 NM south of Ponta Delgada. From Santa Maria, it’s approximately 500 NM to Porto Santo, which is part of Madeira. After Porto Santo, we continue to Madeira – the green island far out in the Atlantic. After Madeira, we might stop at Ilhas Desertas or Salvagem Grande (both nature reserves belonging to Portugal) before sailing on to the Canary Islands.
From Madeira to the Canary Islands, it is 300 NM, and our first stop will be on the island of La Palma. After visiting La Palma, we sail on to Tenerife.

Azores
The Azores consist of nine islands in total, featuring fantastic nature and rich marine life. We have encountered whales and dolphins on several occasions during summer sails.
São Miguel is the largest and second southernmost of the islands. More than half of the total population of 240,000 people in the Azores live on São Miguel. The capital, Ponta Delgada, is known for its cobblestone streets and luxurious marina. Santa Maria was the first of the Azorean islands to be discovered. It is a peaceful island with varied landscapes. The western part of the island is flat, while the eastern part is mountainous. The only town on Santa Maria is Vila do Porto. It was on Santa Maria that Columbus was captured and imprisoned upon landing. He had promised to visit the island, but when he finally arrived, they took him for a pirate and arrested him.

Madeira
Porto Santo is the smaller island, 40 NM northwest of Madeira. On Porto Santo, we will take a tour and visit the town of Vila Santa for a pleasant dining experience at Apollo 14. After Porto Santo, it is a day sail over to Madeira. Here, we will rent a car for a day to explore the island and take a Levada walk to Risco, a waterfall set in a stunning landscape high up on the island.

Canary Islands
We leave Madeira behind and set course for the Canary Islands. Of the seven Canary Islands, La Palma is the northernmost. In 2002, UNESCO designated the entire island of La Palma as a biosphere reserve. La Palma’s landscape, with its majestic volcanoes, deep forests, and cozy beaches, has earned it the nickname “la isla bonita,” or “the beautiful island.” La Palma also has a Starlight reserve thanks to its clear skies. Tenerife is the largest and highest island, with the impressive volcano El Teide rising 3,000 meters into the sky. Gomera is one of the smallest Canary Islands and perhaps the least known. Tourism is not as widespread on the island. People come here to enjoy the tranquility and the fantastic nature, which consists of mountains, ravines, and forests. Gran Canaria with Las Palmas will be the final destination. Las Palmas is lively with Spanish city life, featuring the beach Las Canteras in the heart of the city.
